As to establish a new social contract:
We, the citizens of these United States, gathered here in convention, do hereby establish this new social contract. We recognize the intrinsic value of the natural world, the inherent dignity of every human being, and the interconnectedness of our communities.
Article I: Environmental Stewardship
- The right to a healthy, thriving environment is fundamental and inalienable.
- We shall protect and restore natural ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and promote ecological balance.
- Renewable energy sources shall be prioritized, and fossil fuel extraction phased out.
Article II: Human Rights and Dignity
- Every individual has the right to clean air and water, nutritious food, and comprehensive healthcare.
- Education, from pre-K to higher education, shall be free and accessible to all.
- Economic policies shall prioritize equitable distribution, social welfare, and worker ownership.
Article III: Community Governance
- Decision-making power shall be decentralized, with community assemblies and participatory democracy.
- Transparency, accountability, and civic engagement are essential to governance.
- Indigenous wisdom and traditional knowledge shall be respected and integrated.
Article IV: Economic Justice
- Wealth shall be redistributed through progressive taxation and social development programs.
- Cooperatives, mutual aid networks, and community land trusts shall be supported.
- The rights of workers, including fair wages and collective bargaining, are fundamental.
Article V: Global Citizenship
- We recognize our place within the global community and commit to international cooperation.
- Human rights, climate justice, and peaceful conflict resolution shall guide foreign policy.
- Cultural exchange, education, and diplomacy shall foster global understanding.
Article VI: Constitutional Evolution
- This accord shall be a living document, open to revision and improvement.
- Citizens’ assemblies shall convene regularly to ensure the accord remains aligned with the needs of the people and the planet.
